APPLICATION GUIDELINES
The Guido A. and Elizabeth H. Binda Foundation welcomes proposals from non-profit organizations that
promote creative educational projects in Southwest Michigan. The following
guidelines help direct our funding decisions:
1. Program Areas:
The Foundation will consider requests that fall within
the following interest areas:
Education
Arts/Culture
Health Education and Human Services
Environmental Education
2. Geographic Considerations:
The Foundation prefers to target:
primarily Calhoun County;
Organizations serving Calhoun County and
headquartered elsewhere; and
exceptions at the Board's discretion.
3. Funding Priorities:
Creative educational projects receive the highest
consideration. We do not contribute to ongoing operating funds or short-term
personal opportunities such as trips, conferences or summer camps. We are not
allowed, by law, to make grants to individuals. Grants to capital campaigns
or endowments are considered on a very limited basis.
4. Qualifying Organizations/Projects:
To be eligible for support, the organization
or institution, as well as the purpose of the proposed project, must qualify under
non-profit regulations of the United States Internal Revenue Service.
5. Sustainability:
Projects must demonstrate the potential to continue the funded
work in a self-renewing manner after Binda Foundation funding ceases.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Initial contact may be made in the form of a Letter of Inquiry, sent
electronically or through the mail, describing the project for which funds are sought. The
letter should include a brief description of the program/who is being served,
anticipated request amount, dates of the project as well as other sources of support.
If the request is within the scope of the Foundation's mission, a formal Application
will be returned to you by e-mail or by US Mail.
Applications must be received electronically or through the mail at the Foundation
offices in Battle Creek, MI by April 1st or November 1st of any year. A confirmation letter
of receipt will be sent to all applicants whose Application was received on time; the
Applications will then be considered by the Foundation Grant Review Committee at its next
meeting.
Recommendations made by the Committee are submitted to the Foundation Board of Trustees
for consideration at the next semi-annual Board Meeting in January or June. Applicants will
be advised of the Board's decisions shortly thereafter.
To assist you in the preparation of your Letter of Inquiry and Application, the
following are some of the reasons an Application may be denied:
the Application fails to meet one or more of the 5 general guidlines above;
the Application generally duplicates another Foundation project; or
other Applications approved by the Board take precedence at this time.
In certain cases, the Board will request that an Application be revised and/or
resubmitted for consideration at some future time.
